When most people think of beauty, they picture a oustandingly gorgeous male/female that contains the facial and bodily features everyone dreams of having. Having colored eyes, impeccable skin, voluminous locks and being the perfect height are not the only things that makes a human being "beautiful". Beauty goes deeper than what is presented on the outside, its whats on the inside that counts as well.
A person can have the most attractive face but contain the most ugliest heart. Your looks can take you far but your personality and the way you treat others can take you even further. Who wants to be accompanied by someone who is arrogant and inconsiderate of your feelings? Definately not me. I wouldn't like for my mood to be altered from good to bad because one individual contained so much negativity within. A persons bad attitude and actions can effect your mood entirely and turn your life in a disarray.I find it so interesting to see these couples in which one of the partners is controlling and treats the other poorly. I often ask myself, "Why would they choose to stay in that relationship if they're being mistreated? Are they afraid that they can't find another that is as "beautiful" as the last ?"
I would settle to find a person who is not drop dead gorgeous but has a heart full of compassion. I wouldn't mind having him as company because I know I will be treated well and cared for and that the main thing that matters. As the Lebanese-American writer and philosopher Kahil Gibran once said, "Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart."
Your entry entices me. I like how you give background information before you proceed to give your opinions about your quote. I also like your vivid description on the ideal look of how people portray "beautiful". It gives you a better understanding on your quote and it sets up your opinion. The only negative aspect I see in your entry is that it's a bit too short. I would love to hear more input into your quotes. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the topic of your entry and how you interpret the word beautiful. I agree with the beginning of the piece on how people see "beauty", as only having a gorgeous face or amazing body, and ignore the fact that it's what is on the inside that truely counts. I would like to know if you've had any expirence or have faced this problem before, falling for someones looks and realizing the person on the inside is not as beautiful as you expect.
ReplyDeleteYou have a good hook that interested which had me keep on reading. I feel you have deep emotions for this quote and your meaning of beauty which is great, because if the reader can see/feel your emotions, the reader itself will have those emotions. I read on Ms. Hamill's wall that was a quote and it said something like, if the writer does not cry, the reader will not cry. So in conclusion great job!
ReplyDeleteI too really enjoyed the description you gave to someone beautiful, it makes the reader picture this person and how in society's eyes they are the definition of beautiful. And yet this definition of beautiful has the ugliest heart which people looked passed because of the complexion of their face. Although, I would not say that you would be settling if you do not have a "drop dead gorgeous" partner because if you see the beauty within, you start to see the beauty they obtain on the outside as well.
ReplyDeleteThe description you gave was great. It makes the readers visualize and pay more attention to what is going on with the people around us. Many people are focused on just looks they want their significant other to look a certain way. But , as long as they are a good person on the inside then that's all that matters. This topic kept me interested and wanting to read more. I love how you also put your opinions and side comments in there. This piece was overall excellent.
ReplyDeleteI love your introduction, it sets up the image everyone pictures in their mind when we hear beauty. True beauty can not be seen but it has to be rather felt with the heart. Like the famous quote "Don't judge a book by its cover" states we should not base beauty or assume something by just looking at its appearance. Great examples and I love how you incorporate your opinion.
